Questions about using the Steps for Life fundraising pages:

Q: How do I start a team when registering online?

A: When starting a team, you must first decide which registration fees you wish to cover in the initial transaction. If you are starting a team and paying the registration fee for yourself and one or more of your teammates, choose Register Multiple People. If you will be paying only your own registration fee, and inviting others to register themselves, choose Register Your Team. The first person to create the team will automatically become the team captain.

Q: My colleague, friend, family member has already started a team and I’d like to join their team. How do I do this?

A: Here’s how to join a team that has already been created:

  1. Go to stepsforlife.ca/locations and click the link for your community’s Steps for Life page.
  2. Select “Join a team”.
  3. Use the dropdown box to select your desired team and click continue.
  4. Proceed to complete your registration by providing the information requested.

Q: How can I update my ‘shoelace thermometer’ to include donations/pledges that I’ve collected in cash and cheques?

A: You can update your shoelace thermometer to reflect donations you have collected in cash and cheques by entering offline pledges. To do this, log into My HQ, and click on the “Tools” tab. Enter your cash and cheque donations by clicking the “Enter Pledge” button. To view the details of donations that are still pending, click the “View Pending” next to the date the donations were entered. Please note that cash and cheque donations entered here must still be included on a pledge sheet. If you do use this feature, please print your pledge entry history and bring it with your completed pledge sheet(s) when you submit your cash and cheque donations at that walk.

Q: Our company would like to sponsor our local Steps for Life walk, but we would like to do so anonymously. Is this possible?

A: Yes, a sponsor can also be listed anonymously. To sponsor your local Steps for Life walk, fill in a Sponsorship Commitment Form, and indicate “No public credit / anonymous” on the form.

Q: How can I see who has pledged me?

A: Go to My HQ using the link provided in your confirmation email. Log into My HQ using the username and password you chose when you registered. You can view your donor list and amounts that have been donated by clicking on the “Reports” tab.

Q: All of my donors are not showing up on the scroll mechanism. Why?

A: As each donor makes a contribution, they have the option of whether or not they want to appear in the recognition scroll. It was each donor’s choice whether their name appears.

Q: Can friends and family make a donation to a participant by going through the main website?

A: Yes. From the community’s main webpage, friends and family can locate a participant by clicking on the “Sponsor Participant” button. By typing in the name of the participant, they will be directed to the participant’s personalized pledge page.

Q: Why is the “Sponsor Participant” search not finding a participant who I know has registered?

A: You must type the person’s first or last name exactly as it is spelled. This search is not case sensitive.

Q: I forgot my Username and Password. How can I find out what they are?

A: Remember that your username and password are case sensitive. If you follow the link “Forgot username and/or password?”, and choose Option 2 to enter your email address, then click on the corresponding Submit button. You will be asked to answer the security question you provided when you first registered. Once you answer the security question, you will receive an email with a link to reset your password.
